TALK ABOUT: HEATED RIVALRY
1 Referentin: Aleksandra Musiał-Pudełko (UdS), Eintritt frei!
Vortrag mit Ausschnitten zu der Serie HEATED RIVALRY in englischer Sprache.
Adapted from Rachel Reid's bestselling novel, Heated Rivalry (2025) has quickly become one of the most talked-about romance adaptations of recent years. This talk focuses on the series first and foremost as a text of popular romance. It asks how the show uses the conventions of the genre, and what those conventions do with a queer love story specifically. Moreover, the talk situates the series within the ongoing expansion of permissible queer representation in popular culture and within its limits; to answer these questions, the talk considers the text alongside its reception: the enthusiasm of fan communities and the discourse around it in the media. Finally, the talk also traces the series' significance in the longer history of popular romance, including the tradition of male/male romance, largely written by and for women, and recent developments in the genre’s publishing industry and fandom.
